Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504) require that institutions in higher education make reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities.

The Office of Disability Resources (ODR) is the designated office to determine and coordinate course accommodations for students. Course accommodations are determined individually to minimize the effects of the disability’s impact and functional limitations in order for students to complete the established academic standards and course/program requirements.

It is vital faculty members understand the obligations related to the provision of accommodations, student rights to confidentiality and privacy, and resources available through ODR, so please familiarize yourself with the ODR website or contact the office.

If you have questions, please contact Maranda Maxey, Director & ADA/504 Coordinator of the Office of Disability Resources, at extension 3056 or maxeymr@appstate.edu.

The Office of Disability Resources recommends including the following text on syllabi and course web sites:

Individuals needing reasonable accommodations should contact the Office of Disability Resources (828.262.3056 or odr.appstate.edu).
