Dear App State Faculty and Staff,
I am pleased to announce that, after an interim appointment, Dr. Christine Hendren has been named Vice Provost of Research and Innovation at Appalachian State University, effective immediately.
Christine has been an integral part of our university since 2020, serving as director of the Research Institute for Environment, Energy and Economics and as a professor in App State's Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences. With a background in environmental engineering, risk assessment, and the integration of knowledge across various disciplines, her most recent work focuses on developing and applying interdisciplinary methods to address complex global challenges, particularly those related to environmental and societal issues.
Her leadership and vision have already significantly contributed to App State, particularly through her role in implementing the university's first Strategic Plan for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities. I am confident her continued leadership will further elevate our research and innovation efforts.
Christine holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University, a professional master's degree in environmental analysis and decision making from Rice University and a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from Duke University.
Please join me in welcoming Christine as App State's Vice Provost of Research and Innovation.
Sincerely,
Neva J. Specht
Acting Provost
