Dear Campus Colleagues,
I'm writing to share an update about the New York Loft following the comprehensive review conducted by the Division of Academic Affairs during the fall 2025 semester. This review included the creation of a faculty working group, five listening sessions, a survey of App State affiliates and alumni and internal budget assessments.
Academic student trips will continue to be prioritized
During the review process, we identified a change to a New York City regulation impacting short-term rentals. This regulation requires further review and may impact future Loft reservations.
Therefore, at this time, the university will continue to prioritize academic student trips and will not accept individual reservations.
Current and future reservation process
- Existing Reservations: Confirmed reservations for spring 2026 will be honored.
- Fall 2026 Reservation Requests: We are now accepting reservation requests for fall 2026 faculty and staff-led academic student trips. Please send requests to nyloft@appstate.edu.
- Confirmation Status: Please note that these requests will be held but will not be confirmed until after the start of the spring 2026 term, pending review/approval.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these complex regulatory requirements and work to define the next chapter for this valuable university asset.
