Amy Wood

Associate Vice Provost for Academics & Community Outreach

Dr. Amy Browder Wood is a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience in higher education administration. She currently serves as the Associate Vice Provost for Academics and Community Outreach for Appalachian State University’s Hickory Campus, where she plays a pivotal role in building academic programming, developing community partnerships, and supporting the strategic growth of the new campus.

Wood joined App State as the Director of Corporate and Community Engagement at the launch of the Hickory Campus. Prior to joining App State, she held multiple leadership roles at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, including Full Professor of Counseling and Counselor Education, Chair of the School of Counseling and Human Services, Dean of the Graduate School, and Assistant Provost. For more than 15 years, she was appointed as the university’s Faculty Athletics Representative, during which time she served on numerous committees of the South Atlantic Conference and was a delegate to the NCAA Convention. Throughout her career, Wood has been recognized for her excellence in teaching, leadership, and service.

Beyond her work in higher education, Wood is deeply committed to community engagement. She currently serves on several boards and committees, including Catawba County United Way, Carolina Caring, Inc., the American Heart Association Event Leadership Committee, and the City of Hickory’s University City Commission.

Wood earned her B.A. in Politics and Sociology from Wake Forest University, her M.A. in Agency Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University, and her PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
