Housing exemption form and priority course registration

A message was sent on Oct. 23 to students whose current classes are all being taught in a remote format about how to request an exemption from their Residence Hall License Contracts (housing contracts). Students were also encouraged to work with their advisors to determine options for an all-remote schedule for spring 2021. The message was from Dr. Mark Ginn in Academic Affairs, Dr. Alicia Vest in University Housing and University Registrar Debbie Race.

Here are excerpts:

Students who complete the exemption form and check out of their residence halls by Sunday, Nov. 1 will receive priority course registration on Nov. 11.

We encourage students who wish to move out of residence halls to consult with their families and their academic advisors. Housing contract exemptions will only be provided to students who are returning home to live with their families.

Click here to opt out of your residence hall contract (log-in required).

Important deadlines:

  • Turn in your exemption form no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

  • Check out of your residence hall no later than 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.

Be sure you have completed the Express Check-out process.

Refund information:

  • Housing refunds: You will receive a prorated refund based on your current assignment and the date you officially check out. The amount is calculated by the number of nights remaining between your official check-out date and Nov. 25, when the halls close for winter break. The refund will appear as credit to your student account. Because you are opting out of your contract for the entire year, you will not be billed for Spring housing.
