Interim Provost Heather Norris' report to Faculty Senate

Interim Provost Heather Norris' Faculty Senate Comments

Thank you to the faculty and to the outgoing senators. I know it has been a particularly difficult year. It was impressive to look at the Faculty Senate Committee reports and be reminded of all of the work that you’ve accomplished this year, even amidst a global pandemic. I greatly appreciate the conversations we’ve had this past year and the input you’ve provided through the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee, the Executive Committee, the Budget Committee, the ad hoc Shared Governance Committee, and more. These conversations will serve as a foundational piece to our shared governance going forward.

I sincerely hope that you’ll find time to rest this summer, but also find ways to engage with our return to Fall and beyond.

As the Chancellor mentioned in her remarks, we look forward to engaging in further conversation with you at our upcoming reception on May 6.

We’ll also be celebrating our students’ success this year through in-person AND virtual Commencements. In order to give priority of limited space to the family members of graduates and the graduates themselves, faculty will not be participating in commencement ceremonies inside the Convocation Center. However, please be in touch with your school/colleges for ways to participate in college-level celebrations.

In recognition of all the work that you would still like to accomplish in this, your last meeting of the academic year, I’ll turn it back to Michael. Thank you, Michael, for the opportunity to speak. I look forward to further conversation at the Chancellor’s reception on May 6.
