Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
Dr. Sue Edwards joined the Office of Academic Affairs in August, 2015. As vice provost for faculty affairs she is responsible for overseeing all areas of faculty evaluation and development and serves as the Academic Affairs liaison on all personnel matters.
Dr. Edwards serves as the liaison to UNC General Administration and as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) liaison. In addition, she works very closely with Faculty Senate; provides oversight and support for revision and interpretation of the Faculty Handbook; and assists the campus with the policies and procedures related to promotion, tenure, and reappointment of faculty.
Dr. Edwards has a Ph.D. in Comparative Physiology from Deakin University, a Master of Science degree in Neuroscience from The University of Melbourne and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology is also from Deakin University.
Dr. Edwards came to Appalachian State University from James Cook University in Australia in 2007 and served as the chair of the Biology Department from 2012 to 2015. She completed the BRIDGES Academic Leadership for Women program at the University of North Carolina in 2014, chaired Appalachian's Council of Chairs for the 2014/2015 academic year and is an active member on numerous university committees and task forces.
