Music Industry Studies (BS)

Shown here are the general learning goals of the program broken down into specific student learning outcomes (SLOs). These SLOs represent what a student should be able to do as a result of successfully completing this program. Student performance on these outcomes are routinely assessed by program faculty as a way of informing programmatic improvement efforts.

Goal Outcome

1. To develop in students the professional background and skills necessary to be successful as an intern and in their careers within the industry.

  • 1.1 Students will demonstrate operational knowledge of the latest technology as it relates to music and the music industry.
  • 1.2 Students will demonstrate the ability to represent themselves in a professional manner.
  • 1.3 Students will exhibit the interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively in a team setting.

2. To obtain an understanding of the music industry, including the functions and business models of its basic component sectors, and the relationships of these sectors to each other.

  • 2.1 Students will compare the difference in business models between selling physical product and utilizing creative property rights.
  • 2.2 Students will contrast the differing income streams and revenue generation between the profit and not-for-profit sectors in the arts.
