History, Social Studies Education (BS)

Shown here are the general learning goals of the program broken down into specific student learning outcomes (SLOs). These SLOs represent what a student should be able to do as a result of successfully completing this program. Student performance on these outcomes are routinely assessed by program faculty as a way of informing programmatic improvement efforts.

Goal Outcome

1. Students will gain the necessary skills and experience to teach history in secondary schools.

2. Students will learn to conduct research using historical approaches and methods.

  • 2.1 Students will identify and use primary resources to conduct historical research.
  • 2.2 Students will identify and use secondary resources to conduct historical research.

3. Students will learn to think using historical approaches and methods.

  • 3.1 Students will formulate well-constructed and well-stated theses for historical research papers.

4. Students will learn to write using historical approaches and methods.
