Shown here are the general learning goals of the program broken down into specific student learning outcomes (SLOs). These SLOs represent what a student should be able to do as a result of successfully completing this program. Student performance on these outcomes are routinely assessed by program faculty as a way of informing programmatic improvement efforts.

Goal Outcome

1. Understand the discipline of Health Education and its foundation in learning theory and the biological and behavioral sciences

  • 1.1 Health Education students will classify the roles and responsibilities of health educators who practice in a variety of settings
  • 1.2 Health education teacher candidates: summarize biological, psychological, historical, behavioral, and sociological concepts related to risk reduction and health promotion

2. Apply important concepts of nutrition, consumer health, family life/sexuality, mental health, chronic and communicable diseases, first aid and safety, and environmental health.

  • 2.1 Health education teacher candidates: remember medically accurate content knowledge to assist students in the adoption of health-promoting behaviors

3. Demonstrate a variety of methods and skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating health education programs

  • 3.1 Health Education students will deliver a micro-teaching experience in the public schools
  • 3.2 Health education teacher candidates: apply skills of planning of health education programs

4. Evaluate and create resources for effective programs in Health Education.

  • 4.1 Health Education teacher candidates critique resources and instructional materials in health education
  • 4.2 Health Education teacher candidates produce creative and meaningful instructional materials
