Communication, Public Relations (BS)

Shown here are the general learning goals of the program broken down into specific student learning outcomes (SLOs). These SLOs represent what a student should be able to do as a result of successfully completing this program. Student performance on these outcomes are routinely assessed by program faculty as a way of informing programmatic improvement efforts.

Goal Outcome

1. Students will demonstrate ability to develop, analyze, and produce strategic and creative public relations material and/or research.

  • 1.1 Students will describe public relations strategy in written research regularly produced in the profession.
  • 1.2 Students will evaluate the validity of social science research.
  • 1.3 Students will apply public relations strategy in the production of creative public relations material.

2. Students will demonstrate ability to engage in ethical teamwork.

  • 2.1 Students will evaluate ethical participation of self and others in public relations efforts.
  • 2.2 Students will identify ethcial concerns in public relations programming and the profession.
  • 2.3 Students will produce ethical public relations campaign plans and executions.

3. Students will demonstrate written, oral and visual communication skills required in public relations.

  • 3.1 Students will demonstrate professional public speaking skills.
  • 3.2 Students will apply design theory in the creation of public relations material.
  • 3.3 Students will write public relations documents that meet professional standards.
  • 3.4 Students will use industry standard software to create public relations print material and visual presentations.
