Shown here are the general learning goals of the program broken down into specific student learning outcomes (SLOs). These SLOs represent what a student should be able to do as a result of successfully completing this program. Student performance on these outcomes are routinely assessed by program faculty as a way of informing programmatic improvement efforts.

Goal Outcome

Major's civic literacy (i.e. their knowledge of politically relevant history and institutions, both at home and abroad) should increase.

  • Students scores on externally recognized exam on political institutions should improve.

Majors will ability to do independent research will improve.

  • Research Methods class (3115) will increase students' knowledge of quantitative analysis.
  • See increasing numbers of majors conducting directed research or collaborative research with faculty.

Majors' civic engagement (i.e. participation in politically relevant activities) should increase.

  • Students will report increasing levels of involvement in politically-relevant organizations and activities.
